Expressive Figure Drawing
Jan 4th - 8th 2016 Mon - Fri 9.30 - 4.30 (5 days)

With the goal of providing fresh ways of working within a challenging and creative studio environment, learn to confront your habitual approach to drawing by questioning the way you use your body, restricting the way you make your lines and integrating broader imagery and concepts into your approach while inviting you to rethink your notion of creating “good” drawings. Using a series of specific exercises and techniques and with an emphasis on engaging with the subconscious and intuitive abilities that we release when drawing from the model, you will be encouraged to find a different and inspiring approach to figure drawing.

FIGURE PAINTING IN THE
RENAISSANCE TRADITION

Jan 11th -16 2016 Mon - Sat 9.30 - 4.30 (6 days)

Through demonstrations and individual instruction, explore the basic principles of layered methods and techniques of the old masters to approach painting the figure in oil in the Renaissance tradition. Starting with a careful under-drawing, followed by a tonal grisaille layer, finish with a full color painting. Working from the model in a one-week pose and using a classical palette of colours, explore the perception and effects of light and color on form. Daily lectures, demonstrations and discussions are balanced with personal critiques during the day in this always popular class.
