Below you will find various eye health exercises,
all of which I use (when I can get myself to do them...). They are
really eye relaxation techniques rather than 'exercises' like weight
lifting. They do not have an immediate effect but definitely help
when I do them
consistently
every day for a week or two. Like going to the gym, knowing
the benefits of them does not always lead to me practising them!
I do know that they work and I hope that they help you to keep your
eye muscles in shape. |

Pinhole Glasses |
Here are links to three different
companies that sell pinhole glasses online. I first saw them
at a health products trade fair in London in the late 1980's.
For the last few years I have been wearing them consistently
every day for an hour or two and its easy for me as I put them
on first thing in the morning while I'm having my tea and checking
my email on the computer etc. PinholeGlasses.org have the coolest models
and the best prices. You can wear them outside if you go for
a walk but you will find that in the sun, the black surrounding
the holes seems to enlarge and it can put your balance off at
first. When you wear them indoors, after a while you don't see
the holes anymore and a sort of clear patch opens up. My eyes
feel better while wearing them and I do notice during the day
if I have not been wearing them that morning. |

the
brock string |
 |
Make the string
on the left by getting a piece of string about 60 inches long.
Tie a large bead in the middle, then two more, one on either
side, 10 inches from the middle one. You can use any kind of
bead in any colour, I found these big wooden ones. Finally
tie a loop on each end so you can hook it over a doorhandle
or hook or anything stable that will hold it at the right height
level with your eyes. You can do this exercise sitting down.
TO DO THE EXERCISE:
Hold the string from one end and pull it taught from whatever
its hooked over at the other end to just by the tip of your
nose. Stare down to the first bead and relax your eyes so that
you see a converging V or X shape of two strings
meeting at the bead. Move your eyes to the next bead keeping
the two string V or X shape. And on to the next and back and
forth. When you get good at it, try to make the strings converge
inbetween the beads as well. Do this for 5 mins every day. |

To print
out the pdf files from the links below, you should have Adobe Reader
6 and upwards installed. If you don't see anything after you have
clicked on the links, download Adobe
Reader and install it - Its
free. One of the files is larger and if you are on 56K diallup it
will take a minute or two to download. Make sure that your print
dialogue is set to scale the document to your printer's margins.
If you have trouble printing it out,
contact me via the contact page and I will
email the files to you. |
*(29
April 2010) The PDFs should hopefully print at the proper size -
US Letter size 8.5 X 11 ins.
The edges of the printed letters on Exersise
3 should measure 136mm X 157mm |

EXERCISE
1 |
Download the illustration
on the left by clicking on the link below and print it out
on a letter size piece of white paper. Paste it onto a piece
of light cardboard or have it laminated at Kinko's if you find
it too floppy to hold.
TO DO THE EXERCISE:
Hold the print at reading distance and relax your eyes while
focussing on the double image at the top until you see three
yin/yang symbols instead of two. You have to sort of 'see through'
the symbols. When you see them quite easily, move your eyes
down the sheet to the next line and do the same with the other
symbols. Move your eyes up and down the sheet keeping the three
images of each line of symbols. If you practice it becomes
easy. Do this for 5 mins every day. |

EXERCISE
2 |
Download the illustration
on the left by clicking on the link below and print it out
as explained in exercise 1.
TO DO THE EXERCISE:
Hold the print about two or three inches from your eyes, level
with the center. Focus on the center and follow the arrow
with your eyes to the number at the end and back to the center.
Do not move the print away from your eyes, even if it is blurred
at that distance. Go around the clock one arrow at a time.
You can go to opposite numbers across the center as well when
you get bored. Do this for 4 or 5 mins every day. |

EXERCISE
3 |
Download the illustration
on the left by clicking on the link below and print it out
as explained in exercise 1.
TO DO THE EXERCISE:
Hold the print at reading distance and relax your eyes while
focussing, just like in exercise 1. You should now see
five columns of print instead of four. Start off reading and
re reading the paragraph at the bottom of the MIDDLE column
that you now see. As you get better at it with practice, try
the next paragraph up and so on. I still haven't made it to
the smallest top one. You will notice interesting things about
the word 'breathing' when you are doing it properly. Do this
for 5 mins every day. |
